Program Overview
The Wiidookaage Ikwe Program is an emerging initiative of the Indigenous Fellowship of Hamilton Road (IFHR) designed to support Indigenous women through transitional housing assistance and culturally grounded wraparound supports.
The program aims to create a supportive environment where women can access stability, community connection, and opportunities for healing and growth while reconnecting with culture and community.
Why the Program Exists
Indigenous women continue to face significant social and structural challenges, many of which are rooted in the ongoing impacts of colonialism, displacement from traditional lands, and systemic barriers to housing and support services.
Within the Hamilton Road and East London area, community conversations have identified the importance of safe and supportive spaces where Indigenous women can access transitional support while rebuilding stability and strengthening community connection.
The Wiidookaage Ikwe Program is intended to respond to these needs by providing culturally informed support grounded in Indigenous values and relationships.
What Participants Can Expect
• Transitional housing assistance
• Community connection and peer support
• Cultural teachings and mentorship
• Access to community resources and services
• Opportunities to rebuild stability and independence
Community Impact
Programs that support Indigenous women play an important role in strengthening families, communities, and future generations.
By creating culturally grounded support systems, the Wiidookaage Ikwe Program contributes to community wellbeing and long-term stability.
Looking Forward
As IFHR continues to develop its community hub on Hamilton Road, the Wiidookaage Ikwe Program will grow alongside the needs of the community.
Through collaboration with community partners, Elders, and support organizations, the program aims to create sustainable pathways of support for Indigenous women.
