Board of Directors

Governance at IFHR

The Indigenous Fellowship of Hamilton Road is guided by a Board of Directors who work collectively to support the mission and long-term development of the organization.

The board provides governance, oversight, and strategic guidance while ensuring that the organization remains accountable to the community it serves.

Rather than following a traditional hierarchical structure, IFHR has adopted a leadership model that reflects values of collaboration, shared responsibility, and collective decision-making.

Collective Leadership

IFHR’s governance structure recognizes that leadership is strongest when responsibilities are shared and decisions are made collaboratively.

The board works together as a collective body to guide the direction of the organization, ensuring that programs and initiatives reflect the needs and priorities of the community.

This approach emphasizes respect, accountability, and shared responsibility among board members.

Board Structure

Chair – Helps guide board meetings and supports the board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities.

Co-Chair – Works alongside the Chair to ensure continuity of leadership and shared responsibilities within the board.

Treasurer – Provides oversight of financial matters and supports responsible stewardship of the organization’s resources.

Secretary – Maintains records, meeting minutes, and governance documentation.

Executive Director – Participates in board discussions and works closely with the board to support the implementation of organizational priorities and programs.

Rotating Elders – Provide cultural guidance, wisdom, and community perspective to support the work of the organization.

Community Representation

The board reflects the importance of community involvement and leadership. Board members bring a range of experiences, perspectives, and skills that help guide the organization’s growth and development.

Through collective leadership and community engagement, the board works to ensure that IFHR remains grounded in the needs, priorities, and values of the community it serves.

Future Leadership

As IFHR continues to grow, additional leadership opportunities may emerge within the board and governance structure.

Community members who are interested in contributing to the governance and long-term development of IFHR may have opportunities to participate in board service as positions become available.
